Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast augmentation can be done either on an outpatient basis or with hospital confinement, depending on the patient's preference. Many patients prefer having it done as an outpatient procedure, for convenience and more affordable costs. It may be performed in a surgeon's office-based operating room.

The way your surgeon inserts and positions your implants depends on what you have agreed on during your consultation. The incisions that the surgeon makes are small and he makes every effort to positon the incisions so that the scars will be as inconspicuous as possible.

After making the incision, the surgeon will create a pocket either below the chest muscle (submuscular) or between the chest muscle and the breast tissue (subglandular). The implants are then inserted and positioned properly. Stitches are used to close the incisions, which may also be taped. A gauze bandage may be applied over your breasts to help with healing.

The surgery usually takes two to three hours to complete.
